DETAILS:
Early 20th century hand-painted sheer silk lounge set / pajama ensemble in the dreamiest celadon mint green with delicate blush pink trim throughout. This ethereal two-piece set features an incredibly lightweight semi-sheer silk chiffon or silk crepe construction with exquisite hand-painted Japanese-inspired landscape scenes including pagodas, sailboats, mountains, pine trees, and water motifs rendered with faint metallic accents.
The jacket features a high mandarin collar with intricate handwoven passementerie frog closures in sculptural spiral cordwork, adding a beautiful dimensional detail down the front. Tiny patch pockets at the hips and softly draped sleeves complete the silhouette.
The textile itself is extraordinary- airy and gauzy with a finely pebbled texture that floats beautifully on the body. The hand-painted scenes feel almost watercolor-like against the translucent silk ground.
An exceptionally rare and artistic set that embodies the romantic chinoiserie and Japonisme influence popular in tearlt 20th century -1930s. Equally collectible as wearable art or display textile.
Things to note: Top is missing the very bottom Handwoven spiral frog closure on one side. To preserve this garment, it has been delicately hand washed - dry cleaning recommended for a deeper cleaning. Only a couple very tiny pin holes- all have been pointed out in photos. Tiny rusting dots on pants- not noticeable to the eye- these have been pointed out in photos. Very faint, very small discoloration areas on top that have been pointed out in photos. Overall this set is in incredible condition for its age.
